Antic Café Espanyol

Please note the full article is available in English and Spanish translation.

The Antic Café Espanyol is on Barcelona’s historic Avinguda del Paral.lel. The restaurant/street café has recently been renovated by the architect Carlos de Villalta.

The historic Antic Café opened in 1892 and saw the heyday of the Avinguda Paral.lel in the early/mid-20th century when it was the equivalent of Montmartre in Paris with adult shows, vaudeville and theatre.

The café has been completely renovated with the lighting design by Barcelona based Space Lighting which provides an integrated design and supply service for commercial and residential projects. The renovation of the café contributes to the redevelopment of El Paral.lel – which reputedly once had the longest stretch of street cafes in Europe – as a destination for leisure.

Some of the tables and the bars are lit by Factorylux industrial lamp shades, in both gloss black and white enamel. The industrial shades measure 360mm in diameter and are made entirely in the UK for exceptional quality. In addition to white and gloss black, the shades are available in four other genuine vitreous enamel finishes and six metallics including pure copper, verdigris copper and galvanised. The shades were installed with Factorylux fittings, including ceiling roses and lighting chain. The service area of the restaurant is lit by bare bulb pendants featuring Factorylux cord grip E27 bulb holders fitted with jet black fabric cable and filament light bulbs.

Indirect lighting was provided by KKDC , the London based specialist for indirect lighting and micro profile systems for in & outdoor.
